The sand and shingle beach has stunning views across the Solway to Scotland and is ideal for dog walking, or just relax and let the children play in the sand and paddle in the water. The Victorian seaside town of Silloth is a 10 min drive away. Maryport is a 15 min drive with attractions for all the family including Lake District Coast Aquarium and The Wave visitor centre. It sits on the banks of Sandy Beck, a haven for wildlife and birdlife, including deer, red squirrels and kingfishers. The Smithy was converted from the former Blacksmiths forge by the owners in 2008. They retained the character, with vaulted ceilings and wooden beams and complemented it with the use of high quality furnishings throughout. Lorton, Crummock Water and Buttermere are nearby, with spectacular walks on the surrounding fells. The nearest pub serving bar meals is 2 miles and a wealth of amenities are available in the vibrant market town of Cockermouth, 4 miles. The accommodation is all on ground floor, which may be helpful for people with mobility problems.

Grange was a popular resort of the Victorians and still today retains an historic feel with the lovely promenade fringed by delightful tea rooms and craft shops. Lindale is well placed for exploring all of the Lakes and Furness Peninsula, Windermere Lake being only only 15 minutes drive. This 1830s stone barn was converted by the owner into luxury accommodation retaining many original features, including exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings and complemented with luxurious furnishings and exceptional facilities. All principal rooms have double or triple aspect with views to the Lakeland fells, Solway and the Scottish lowlands. It is situated in the historic hamlet of Bridekirk, just outside the Gem town of Cockermouth, which has a wide range of individual shops, restaurants, pubs, a major supermarket and visitor attractions. Ellwood lies 5 miles inland from the spectacular Cumbrian coast and only 2 miles from the unparalleled Lake District National Park.
